AANCHA TOP (3,800 m) – Above Dinala Tal, Garhwal Himalayas
Rising just above the serene basin of Dinala Tal, Aancha Top is a quiet alpine vantage point that offers expansive, uninterrupted views of the upper Yamuna Valley. At approximately 3,800 meters, this gentle summit rewards trekkers with a dramatic panorama of rolling high-altitude meadows, layered ridgelines, and distant snow-clad peaks. The ascent to Aancha Top is short yet rewarding, making it a perfect extension for those seeking perspective and elevation without technical difficulty. Standing here, with Dinala Tal shimmering below, one experiences a profound sense of openness and calm—an ideal spot for reflection, photography, and soaking in the vastness of the Garhwal Himalayas.
Views & Surroundings
Set in the remote folds of the holy Yamunotri Valley, Dinala Tal offers a visual experience that is both spiritually evocative and dramatically alpine. The valley itself remains one of the least disturbed regions of the Garhwal Himalayas, where dense forests, open alpine pastures, and high glacial basins coexist in rare harmony.
As the trail gains height, the landscape opens to reveal breathtaking views of the Swargarohini massif, a mountain steeped in mythological significance and believed to mark the celestial path to heaven. Its towering presence dominates the skyline, especially during early morning and late evening light. Alongside it rises the formidable Bandarpunch Parvat, its vast snowfields and sharp ridges standing as a constant companion throughout the trek.
From the serene basin of Dinala Tal, the surrounding peaks reflect on the still waters of the lake on calm days, creating a setting of profound silence and grandeur. The views here are not just scenic—they are expansive, humbling, and deeply meditative, making Dinala Tal a rare Himalayan vantage point where natural beauty and spiritual resonance merge seamlessly.
Day 1: Dehradun to Rana Chatti (2,200 m)
The journey begins with an early morning pickup at 06:00 AM from Prince Chowk, Dehradun (435 m). We drive through the scenic Yamuna Valley, following winding mountain roads flanked by forests, river views, and traditional hill settlements. As we gradually gain altitude, the air turns cooler and the landscape more rugged. By afternoon, we arrive at Rana Chatti, a quiet Himalayan hamlet that serves as the trailhead for the trek. The evening is spent resting, acclimatising, and preparing for the days ahead. Overnight stay in a local homestay.
Day 2: Rana Chatti to Bamsingh Campsite (2,805 m)
After an early breakfast, we begin our trek from Rana Chatti, entering a tranquil forest trail that winds through oak, pine, and rhododendron stands. The ascent is gradual and steady, making it ideal for acclimatisation while allowing ample time to absorb the serenity of the surroundings. As the forest opens up, we reach the scenic Bamsingh Campsite, set amid alpine clearings with expansive mountain views. The evening is spent relaxing at camp, surrounded by silence and starlit skies. Overnight stay in tents.
Day 3: Bamsingh Campsite to Dinala Tal Camp Site (3,660 m)
Today’s trek takes us higher into the alpine zone as we leave the tree line behind and move through open meadows and rugged terrain. The landscape becomes increasingly dramatic, with sweeping views of surrounding ridgelines and distant snow peaks. By afternoon, we arrive at the Dinala Tal Camp Site, located close to the pristine high-altitude lake. The calm waters of Dinala Tal and the quiet grandeur of the basin create a deeply peaceful atmosphere. The rest of the day is reserved for acclimatisation and exploration around the campsite. Overnight stay in tents.
Day 4: Dinala Tal Camp Site to Aancha Top (3,800 m) and back
An early start takes us on a rewarding ascent to Aancha Top, a panoramic viewpoint rising above the Dinala Tal basin. The climb is gradual yet exhilarating, offering ever-expanding views of the Yamunotri Valley as we gain height. From the top, trekkers are rewarded with sweeping vistas of alpine meadows, layered ridgelines, and prominent Himalayan peaks. After spending time at the summit, we descend back to the Dinala Tal Camp Site. The total trek duration is approximately 4–5 hours. Overnight stay in tents.
Day 5: Dinala Tal Camp Site to Rana Chatti
We begin our descent retracing our steps through the high meadows and forest trails back towards Rana Chatti. The downhill walk is relaxed and reflective, offering a final chance to absorb the changing landscapes as we move back into lower altitudes. By early afternoon, we reach Rana Chatti, where we check into a comfortable homestay. The evening is free to rest and celebrate the successful completion of the trek. Overnight stay in a homestay.
Day 6: Rana Chatti to Dehradun
After breakfast, we drive back to Dehradun, descending once again through the picturesque Yamuna Valley. The journey marks the end of a serene and immersive Himalayan experience, leaving trekkers with lasting memories of solitude, high-altitude landscapes, and the quiet beauty of Dinala Tal and Aancha Top.

🏔️ Pre-Trek Preparations | Parvat Exploration
At Parvat Exploration, we believe that trekking is more than just a journey through mountains — it’s a journey within. While the scenic beauty and untouched trails offer unforgettable memories, they also demand a fair share of physical endurance and mental resilience. It’s not just about being fit — it’s about being ready.
Whether you’re taking your first step on a trail or are a seasoned trekker preparing for a high-altitude adventure, here’s how to get trek-ready, the Parvat way.
🫀 Prerequisites of Trekking
1. Cardiovascular Endurance & Stamina
High-altitude treks test your lungs more than your legs. Building cardio endurance is non-negotiable. Jogging, swimming, cycling, or brisk walking — choose your style but stay consistent. Make it a goal-driven journey, just like your trek.
Progressive Stamina Plan:
-
🎯 Start with completing 5 km in 35 minutes or less
-
🏃♂️ Push further to 5 km in under 30 minutes
-
🏁 Before your trek, aim to finish 10 km in 60 minutes or less
Doing this 4-5 times a week, at least 2 months before your trek, can make a massive difference.
💪 Strength Training
Most Himalayan trails are a combination of ascents, descents, and flat stretches — think of it as climbing an eternal staircase. Building leg strength is crucial to manage these elevations while carrying a loaded backpack.
Recommended Routine:
-
Squats – Begin with 3 sets of 8 reps, aim to increase to 3 sets of 15 reps
-
Add lunges, step-ups, and planks to your routine for better balance and core strength
Strong legs = less fatigue = more views to soak in. 🏞️
🤸♂️ Flexibility
Trekking involves unpredictable terrains and movements — hopping over rocks, ducking under branches, and stretching across ledges. Without flexibility, even the smallest action can feel like a strain.
Daily Stretching Essentials:
-
Hamstrings
-
Quadriceps
-
Hip Flexors
-
Lower Back
-
Shoulders
Just 15–20 minutes of stretching each day can help relax muscles, improve posture, and prevent cramps or stiffness during the trek.
❤️🔥 Cardiovascular + Speed Endurance Mix
This is where most of your training time should go. A perfect mix of speed and endurance helps your heart adapt to thin air and long-distance trekking.
Sample Routine:
-
🏃 Start with 5 km in 45 mins
-
Gradually progress to 7 km in 45 mins
-
Aim for 10 km in 80–90 mins without breaks
The trick is consistency — every week counts.
🏋️ Back & Core Strength
A Himalayan backpack may only weigh 6–10 kg, but it feels heavier the higher you go. Building core strength and shoulder stability helps you carry that weight with ease.
Try these:
-
Planks (front & side)
-
Shoulder shrugs
-
Deadlifts (light-weighted)
-
Back extensions
Training your core will help you maintain posture and prevent lower back strain.
🧘 Mental Preparation
Even the strongest trekker may be tested by sudden weather changes or tough climbs. That’s where mental strength takes the lead.
At Parvat Exploration, we encourage practicing:
-
Breathing Exercises (Pranayama)
-
Meditation (10–15 mins daily)
-
Mindful Silence / Nature Walks
Mental calmness boosts your decision-making ability and allows you to be present — to feel every whisper of the wind, every crunch of gravel beneath your boots.
🔚 Final Word from Parvat Exploration
The Himalayas are humbling. They test and teach. Preparation is your way of respecting the mountain. Start early, stay regular, and trek mindfully.
Because out there, it’s just you, the trail, and the mountain calling.
