Expedition Overview
The Chamser Kangri Expedition (6,622 m) with Parvat Exploration is one of the most rewarding high-altitude climbing experiences in the Ladakh Himalayas. Located near the breathtaking Tso Moriri Lake in the remote Changthang region of Ladakh, Chamser Kangri offers climbers a perfect blend of trekking and mountaineering. This expedition is ideal for adventure enthusiasts who want to experience a 6000+ meter Himalayan peak while exploring the stunning landscapes of Ladakh.
The journey begins in Leh, where participants spend time acclimatizing to the high altitude before driving to the picturesque village of Karzok, one of the highest permanent settlements in the world. From Karzok, the expedition transitions into a trekking route leading through dramatic high-altitude terrain to the Base Camp at 5,250 m. Climbers undergo proper acclimatization and training before attempting the summit.
The summit push offers an unforgettable alpine experience with spectacular views of Tso Moriri Lake, Parang La Pass, and surrounding peaks like Lungser Kangri. With expert leadership, well-planned acclimatization, and professional logistics managed by Parvat Exploration, this expedition provides a safe and structured approach to climbing one of Ladakh’s most beautiful peaks.
Day 1 – Arrival in Leh (3,500 m) | Acclimatization in Ladakh
Your adventure with Parvat Exploration begins with your arrival in Leh (3,500 m), the vibrant capital of Ladakh and the starting point of most Himalayan expeditions. After checking into your hotel, the day is dedicated to rest and gentle acclimatization to the high altitude. In the evening, explore the charming markets of Leh, visit nearby monasteries, and experience the rich Ladakhi culture. Leh is surrounded by ancient Buddhist monasteries, traditional architecture, and stunning mountain landscapes, making it an ideal place to begin your expedition journey. Enjoy local Ladakhi cuisine and prepare yourself for the days ahead.
Day 2 – Rest and Acclimatization in Leh
Today is reserved for proper acclimatization in Leh, which is essential before moving to higher altitudes. Spend the day relaxing and exploring nearby monasteries such as Thiksey, Shey, or Hemis if you wish. Walking around Leh town helps your body gradually adjust to the altitude while allowing you to experience the spiritual and cultural richness of Ladakh. The day also provides an opportunity to check expedition gear and prepare for the upcoming journey towards Tso Moriri and Karzok village. Overnight stay at the hotel in Leh.
Day 3 – Leh to Karzok (4,500 m) | Scenic Drive Across Changthang Plateau
After breakfast, we begin a spectacular 10-hour drive from Leh to Karzok village, located near the pristine Tso Moriri Lake in the Changthang region of Ladakh. The journey offers breathtaking landscapes, high mountain passes, remote Himalayan terrain, and views of the vast Ladakhi plateau. Karzok, one of the highest permanent settlements in the world, sits on the banks of the beautiful Tso Moriri Lake. Upon arrival, check into a guesthouse or campsite and relax while enjoying the serene beauty of this remote Himalayan village.
Day 4 – Acclimatization at Karzok | Explore Tso Moriri Lake
Due to the high altitude of Karzok (4,500 m), this day is dedicated to rest and acclimatization. Spend the day exploring the magnificent Tso Moriri Lake, known for its crystal-clear blue waters and dramatic mountain backdrop. The lake is part of a protected wetland reserve and is home to unique Himalayan wildlife and migratory birds. A short walk around the village or along the lake shore helps your body adjust to the altitude while allowing you to soak in the natural beauty of Ladakh. Overnight stay in guesthouse or camp.
Day 5 – Karzok to Karzok Phu (4,600 m) | Beginning of the Expedition Trek
Today marks the beginning of the trekking phase of the expedition. We gradually trek from Karzok to Karzok Phu, gaining altitude slowly to aid acclimatization. The route passes through rugged Himalayan terrain, open valleys, and breathtaking high-altitude landscapes typical of the Changthang region. After reaching Karzok Phu, we set up camp and spend the evening resting and preparing for the higher climbs ahead.
Day 6 – Karzok Phu to Base Camp (5,250 m)
Wake up early to witness a spectacular sunrise over the mountains with the shimmering Tso Moriri Lake in the distance. After breakfast, we continue trekking towards our Base Camp at 5,250 m. The landscape becomes more dramatic as we ascend into the higher reaches of the Ladakh Himalayas. Upon reaching base camp, the expedition team sets up tents and prepares for the upcoming summit attempt. Enjoy the serene high-altitude environment and rest well for the days ahead.
Day 7 – Training and Acclimatization at Base Camp | Trek to High Camp
This day is dedicated to training and acclimatization at Base Camp. The expedition leader will guide participants through essential mountaineering techniques, safety procedures, and equipment checks required for the summit attempt. Short hikes towards High Camp help improve acclimatization while familiarizing climbers with the route. The day ensures everyone is physically and mentally prepared for the challenging summit push. Overnight stay in tents at base camp.
Day 8 – Summit Attempt and Return to Base Camp
The most exciting day of the expedition begins early. We start the summit push around 1:00 AM, climbing steadily under the starlit Himalayan sky. As dawn approaches, breathtaking views begin to unfold across the vast Ladakh landscape. From the summit, climbers are rewarded with panoramic views of Tso Moriri Lake, Parang La Pass, Chamser Kangri, and Lungser Kangri peaks. After spending some time at the summit, we carefully descend back to base camp and celebrate the successful climb. Overnight stay in tents.
Day 9 – Reserve Day for Summit Attempt
This day is kept as a reserve day for the summit climb in case weather conditions prevent a successful summit attempt on the previous day. High-altitude expeditions in the Himalayas require flexibility due to unpredictable mountain weather. If the summit attempt is shifted to this day, participants will need to pay INR 4,000 per person on the spot to cover additional logistics and support.
Day 10 – Base Camp to Karzok
After breakfast, we begin the trek back from Base Camp to Karzok village, retracing our route through the rugged landscapes of the Changthang region. The descent offers one last opportunity to admire the breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and the pristine waters of Tso Moriri Lake. Upon reaching Karzok, we relax and celebrate the completion of the expedition. Overnight stay in guesthouse or camp.
Day 11 – Karzok to Leh (Drive)
On the final day, we drive back from Karzok to Leh, a scenic journey of approximately 10 hours across the remote landscapes of Ladakh. As we return to Leh, you can reflect on the incredible experience of climbing in the Ladakh Himalayas with Parvat Exploration. Upon arrival, the expedition concludes with unforgettable memories of adventure, high mountains, and the pristine beauty of Ladakh.

🏋️♂️ Extended Fitness Tips for High-Altitude Mountaineering:
1. Build Endurance Over Speed: You’re not training for a sprint; you’re preparing for a long-duration challenge. Go for long, slow hikes with a backpack (gradually increase weight). Weekend treks are excellent real-time simulators.
2. Train with a Backpack: Start adding 5–10 kg weight in your backpack during your stair climbs or trail hikes to mimic the actual load you’ll carry during the expedition.
3. Strengthen Your Ankles & Knees: Do step-ups, box jumps, and single-leg balances to reduce the risk of injury. Downhill walks strain knees—practice them intentionally.
4. Flexibility & Mobility: Add yoga and dynamic stretching to your regime. A flexible body handles terrain variations better and helps avoid cramps or joint stiffness.
5. Altitude Acclimatization Strategy: Get used to climbing high, sleeping low. If you live in the plains, consider weekend hikes at moderate altitudes (2,000m–3,000m).
6. Improve Recovery Time: Monitor how fast your heart rate returns to normal post-exercise. Better recovery = better adaptation at altitude. Try interval training (HIIT or hill sprints once or twice a week).
7. Mental Conditioning: Mountaineering tests your grit. Practice meditation, cold showers, solo walks in nature—anything that builds patience and tolerance in tough conditions.
8. Nutrition Discipline: Eat clean. Focus on complex carbs, good fats, and protein. Hydrate constantly. Add electrolytes to your water when training hard or sweating a lot.
9. Simulate Trek Days: Try doing back-to-back long hikes over weekends. It mimics multiple trekking days and builds resilience.
10. Sleep Hygiene: Altitude can mess with sleep. Get into a regular sleep cycle now, and train your body to rest and recover even after late-night activities.
