Brief Description

Point 5000, also known as Vidya Peak, is a prominent mountain in the Saraswati Range of the Garhwal Himalayas, located in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand. Standing at approximately 5000 meters above sea level, this technical peak presents a challenging climb that requires rope fixing due to its steep and hazardous sections. The ascent involves navigating a combination of rock, snow, and ice, necessitating significant high-altitude mountaineering experience. Climbers typically set up a base camp within the Saraswati Range, with intermediate camps established along the route to facilitate acclimatization and rest. The ideal climbing seasons are pre-monsoon (May-June) and post-monsoon (September-October) when weather conditions are more stable. Essential permits from the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF) and local authorities are required, and environmental regulations must be followed to preserve the region’s pristine ecosystem. Accessibility to the starting point is via road travel to Uttarkashi, followed by trekking to the base camp. Proper preparation, including acclimatization and the use of technical climbing gear, is crucial for a successful and safe ascent of Vidya Peak.

Vidya Peak was first summited in May 2024 under the leadership of Vijay Rautela. The successful expedition team included climbers Aluri Sai Kiran and Sherpas Ashutosh Rana and Neeraj Rana.
Aluri Sai Kiran named this peak Peak ‘Vidya” which means education for all.
