The Bali Pass Trek, located in the Uttarakhand region of the Indian Himalayas, stands as a challenging adventure connecting Yamunotri and Har Ki Dun Valley at an elevation of 16,240 feet (approximately 4,950 meters). Commencing from the picturesque Sankri village and concluding at Janki Chatti, this trek offers seasoned trekkers a thrilling experience through varied terrains. Participant Eligibility and Health Requirements for the Trek:

Age Limit:
Participants from 15 years and above are welcome to join the Trek.

Experience Level:
Previous trekking experience is mandatory.

Physical Fitness:
Participants should be capable of carrying a 15 kg Rucksack (backpack). Fitness is crucial, and climbers must possess sufficient stamina to cover a distance of 5 km in 30 minutes without experiencing undue stress.

Health Requirements:
– Resting pulse rate: 60 to 90 beats per minute
– Blood Pressure: Diastolic 75 – 85 mm Hg, Systolic 100 – 130 mm Hg
– Resting respiratory rate: 12 to 20 breaths per minute
– No history of liver and kidney issues
– Absence of Diabetes Mellitus, Bronchial Asthma, Epilepsy, Heart problems, Hypertension, etc.
– No existing health issues that might adversely impact the participant during the trek
– BMI under 25 (Exceptions for individuals with heavy bone density and those regularly engaged in weightlifting exercises)

Pre-Existing Conditions:
Participants with any pre-existing medical conditions or those currently on medication must declare it in the Self Declaration form.

Special Casual Leave for Government Employees:
Parvat Exploration, a registered adventure tour operator, allows government employees to avail of Special Casual Leave (SCL) for up to 30 days in a calendar year, as per the rules of the Pay Commission. This benefit applies when participating in trekking or mountaineering expeditions organized by a registered adventure organization like Parvat Exploration.

Special Note for Junior Trekkers:
For participants below 15 years, a parent or guardian must accompany them. Trekkers aged 15 to 18 can participate solo but must provide a signed disclaimer form from a parent or guardian.

Itinerary

Day 1 Drive from Dehradun to Sankri (1950 m)

 

Distance: 197 kms

Duration: 9-10 hours

 

The journey kicks off from Dehradun, the capital city. If you’ve chosen transportation through Parvat Exploration, make sure to board the vehicle at ISBT Dehradun by 7 AM. For those traveling independently to Sankri, refer to this guide for trip planning.

Sankri, nestled 197 km away, requires about 9-10 hours to reach, ascending to an altitude of 1950 m. En route, you’ll pass through the stunning hills of Mussoorie and the renowned Kempty Falls. The roads wind through picturesque landscapes, featuring swift mountain streams alongside.

Beyond Mussoorie, the scenery transforms, with blue pine forests replacing deep gorges. The Yamuna River remains a constant companion throughout. The final 22 km stretch to Sankri takes you through the Govind National Park, boasting exotic flora and fauna. While some sections of the road may be rough, the breathtaking views of coniferous forests, Tons river valley, and scattered apple orchards compensate for it.

Expect to reach Sankri by 5 PM. Sankri is a verdant village offering unparalleled views of Mt. Swargarohini, especially during sunset. In peak winter (December to February), snow may greet you right from Sankri. Accommodations for the night are in guest houses. After check-in, freshen up, and explore the surrounding areas.

 

Day 2 Itinerary: Sankri to Debshu Bugyal via Gangad

 

Distance: 15 kms + 9 kms Trek

Duration: 1.5 hour drive + 5-6 hours trek

 

On the second day of the Bali Pass trek, the journey unfolds from Sankri to Debshu Bugyal, passing through Taluka. The trek covers varying elevations, offering trekkers a taste of the diverse landscapes of the Uttarakhand region.

Debshu Bugyal: The trek follows the course of the Supin river, with the first milestone being Debshu Bugyal. This vantage point offers a magnificent view of Kala Nag or Black Peak, providing trekkers with a breathtaking panorama

Note: Trekkers should always stay attuned to the guidance of their trek leaders, follow safety protocols, and be prepared for changing weather conditions. Adequate rest and hydration are crucial during high-altitude treks like Bali Pass.

 

Day 3 Itinerary: Debshu Bugyal to Ruinsara Tal (3565 M)

 

Distance: 9.5 kms

Duration: 5 hours

 

The third day of the Bali Pass trek takes trekkers from the serene Debshu Bugyal Camp to the elevated destination ofRuinsara Tal, covering a distance of 9 kilometers in approximately 5 hours..

1.Descent through the Forest: After enjoying the views from Debshu Bugyal, the trail descends through a forested area with loose stones and a sandy path leading to the riverbank. The descent involves navigating tricky sections, adding an element of adventure to the trek.

2.Supin River Crossing: Trekkers cross the Supin river via a bridge, marking a transition to the opposite bank. The path continues with the Supin river now flowing on the right side.

3.Ascend Along the River: Post-bridge crossing, the trail ascends again, continuing along the Supin river. Trekkers may encounter challenging sections with slippery paths, possibly requiring diversions to navigate safely.

4.Rainbasera (3086 M): The day begins at the Rainbasera campsite, located at an altitude of 3086 meters. Trekkers wake up to the serene surroundings and prepare for the trek ahead.

5.Trail Along Supin River: The trek resumes along the Supin river, and although the trail is not extremely difficult, it demands endurance due to its length.

6.Ruinsara Tal (3565 M): The highlight of the day is reaching Ruinsara Tal, a picturesque lake nestled amidst meadows and rhododendron bushes. The trek covers 7.5 kilometers and takes approximately 4 hours.

7.Campsite by the Lake: Trekkers are rewarded with a beautiful campsite by the lake, where wooden huts replace the usual camps. The campsite offers a unique experience, and the proximity to Ruinsara Tal and the Supin River adds to its charm.

8.Scenic Views: The campsite provides stunning views of the surrounding peaks and landscapes. To the south-west is Yamuna Kanta, a challenging pass leading to Yamunotri. The majestic Banderpooch Peak (6,387 m) graces the eastern horizon, with spectacular views of Dhumdhar Kandi (5,873 m) to the east and Kala Nag (6,387m) and White Peak (6,102m) to the south-east.

Day 4 of the Bali Pass trek is a relatively short and easy journey, covering a distance of about 4 kilometers in approximately 3 hours. The trek takes participants from the serene Ruinsara Tal to the campsite at Odari, offering stunning views and a learning session for upcoming challenges.

1.Ruinsara Tal (3565 M): The day begins at the picturesque campsite by Ruinsara Tal, situated at an altitude of 3565 meters. Trekkers wake up to the tranquil beauty of the lake and surrounding peaks.

2.Descent to Supin River: The initial part of the trek involves descending through dense vegetation to the banks of the Supin river. The trail takes trekkers on a scenic journey, surrounded by the natural beauty of the region.

3.River Crossing: Trekkers cross the Supin river via a bridge, marking the transition to the opposite bank.

4.Ascent to Odari: After crossing the river, the trail ascends to a small meadow before heading southeast along the river. After approximately 3 kilometers, the trail meanders towards the southwest, leading to the campsite at Odari.

1.Base Camp (4678 M): The day starts early at the Base Camp, situated at an altitude of 4678 meters. Trekkers prepare for the challenging ascent to Bali Pass.

2.Trek to Bali Pass (4950 M): The trail heads southeast toward Bali Pass. The trek to the pass involves navigating snow-covered terrain, requiring the use of previously learned techniques. Trekkers commence their journey around 6 AM, aiming to reach the pass within 2-3 hours.

3.Bali Pass (4950 M): Upon reaching Bali Pass, trekkers are rewarded with a 360-degree view of the surrounding peaks, including Swargarohini, Banderpooch, Garhwal ranges, and the Yamunotri valley. The pass offers a breathtaking panorama and serves as a significant milestone.

4.Descent from Bali Pass: The descent from Bali Pass is perhaps the most challenging segment of the trek. Participants navigate a nearly vertical path strewn with scree and large stones. The descent demands careful footing and concentration.

5.Goat Route: After the challenging descent, trekkers encounter the goat route, characterized by an irregular path that is 6 inches or less wide in some places. This section requires mental preparedness and focus.

6.Rest at Upper Dhamni: Following the difficult descent and goat route, a rest stop at Upper Dhamni provides much-needed respite. Participants take a break before the final leg of the trek to Lower Dhamni.

7.Trek to Lower Dhamni: The path to Lower Dhamni is described as confusing, emphasizing the importance of staying close to the trek leader and the team for guidance.

Day 7 Itinerary: Lower Dhamni (3415 M) to Janki Chhatti  & Drive to Dehradun.

 

Distance: 9.5 kms trek 180 km Drive

Duration: 5-6 hours

 

Day 7 marks the final day of the Bali Pass trek, taking trekkers from Lower Dhamni to Jaan ki Chatti via Yamunotri. The day concludes with a drive to Dehradun and an overnight stay in a hotel.

1.Lower Dhamni (3415 M): The day begins at Lower Dhamni, situated at an altitude of 3415 meters. Trekkers prepare for the descent and the journey to Jaan ki Chatti.

2.Trail through Forest: The initial trail leads through a forest, providing a scenic and serene setting as trekkers begin their descent.

3.Cemented Path: The trail merges into a cemented path, offering a more stable and defined route for the trek.

4.Ascent to Yamunotri (4.5 km): The trail is 4.5 kilometers long with a mild ascent leading to Yamunotri. Trekkers can expect the trek to Yamunotri to take approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.

1.Meals during the trek: Coverage from dinner on Day 1 to Breakfast on Day 7/8 ensures participants are provided with necessary sustenance throughout the trek.
2.Forest Permits/Camping Charges: covering permits and charges for camping in the designated forest areas.
3.Accommodation: Tents on a triple-sharing basis, sleeping bags, and mats are provided for a comfortable and restful night’s sleep. Guest house/hotel stays in Sankri on Day 1 are also included.
4.Equipment: Micro-spikes, helmets, and gaiters are provided as required for the trek, ensuring safety and support during challenging terrains.
5.Support Staff: Experienced trek guides, cooks, helpers, and mules or porters are included for carrying common supplies, facilitating a smoother trekking experience.
