Embark on an extraordinary adventure with our combined Mountaineering Bootcamp and Shalang Dhura Peak Expedition in the majestic Himalayas. This comprehensive program is designed to equip participants with the essential skills and knowledge needed for mountain climbing, coupled with the thrill of conquering the breathtaking Shalang Dhura Peak.

Mountaineering Bootcamp Course Objectives:
This bootcamp aims to provide a holistic learning experience in mountaineering. Participants will:

Master Route Finding and Navigation:Demonstrate proficiency in using a map and compass for route finding and navigation during mountain climbs.

Altitude Illness Awareness:Explain the signs, symptoms, and treatment methods of various altitude illnesses.

Mountain Weather Recognition:Describe basic recognition and forecasting of mountain weather.
Hazard Recognition and Mitigation:Differentiate between objective and subjective hazards and learn effective mitigation strategies.
Ice Axe Techniques:Develop an understanding of the use of an ice axe and related equipment.Explain the parts and use of an ice axe.
Demonstrate positions for fall arrest and various self-belay techniques with an axe.
Rope Team Travel:Demonstrate proper use of ropes and an axe while engaging in rope team travel.
Mountain Descent Skills:Explain various techniques for descending a mountain using ropes or glissading.
Snow and Ice Anchoring:Develop basic skills in building and placing anchors in snow and ice.
Demonstrate the construction of bollards, placement of pickets, flukes, and dead men anchors.
Explain proper ice screw placement.

Technical Detail

Itinerary

Day 01:Arrival at Munsyari

Embark on a 10-hour drive from Kathgodam to Munsyari, arriving in the evening. Check into the hotel for an overnight stay. Receive a warm welcome and detailed instructions about the upcoming mountaineering course and the ascent of Shalang Dhura Peak.

Day02:Lilam Trek to Babaldhar (2000 m)

Transfer to Lilam by jeeps or taxis in the morning. Begin the trek to Babaldhar, covering a distance of 5-6 hours. During this trek, participants get introduced to mountaineering equipment, learn rucksack packing, tent pitching, and receive an introduction to essential mountaineering knots.

Day 03:Babaldhar to Bogudiyar/Naherdevi

Continue the trek to reach Bogudiyar/Naherdevi, spending 7-8 hours on the trail. Participants practice mountaineering knots, rope craft, and receive instruction on mountain terminology and hazards.

Day 04: Bogudiyar/Naherdevi to Rilkot/Martoli

Embark on a 7-8 hour trek from Bogudiyar/Naherdevi to Rilkot/Martoli. Focus on mountain terminology, hazards, acclimatization, and further practice of knots.

Day 05: Trek to Base Camp (4050 m)

Trek to the base camp at an elevation of 4050 meters, covering a distance of 6-7 hours. Revise knots and familiarize yourself with technical equipment.

Day 06 ,07 & 08: Training at Base Camp Glacier

Engage in intensive training at the base camp glacier for 3 days. Learn snowcraft, including ascending and descending on snow, toe techniques, camping on snow, and rope techniques. Practice knots, snowcraft rope-up techniques, walking with ice axe, glacier walk, fall arrest, belaying, anchoring techniques, and crevasse rescue demonstrations. Transition to icecraft, covering techniques for ascending and descending on ice, toe techniques, and the use of crampons.

Day 09:Attempt Summit to Shalang Dhura (5678 M) and Back to Base Camp

Make the summit attempt to Shalang Dhura, spending 10-11 hours on this challenging climb. Once at the summit, take in the breathtaking views before descending back to the base camp.

Day 10: Base Camp to Martoli/Rilkot

From the base camp, trek to Martoli/Rilkot, where participants are tested on their mastery of essential mountaineering knots.

Day 11: Rilkot/Martoli to Bogudiyar

Continue the trek from Rilkot/Martoli to Bogudiyar, with participants being tested on mountain terminology and techniques learned during the course.

Day 12: Bogudiyar to Lilam & Drive to Munsyari

Trek from Bogudiyar to Lilam and then drive to Munsyari. Check into a hotel in Munsyari for a well-deserved rest. Conclude the course with the distribution of certificates and a celebratory dinner.

Day -13: Munsyari to Kathgodam

Depart from Munsyari and head back to Kathgodam. Reflect on the newly acquired mountaineering skills and the successful ascent of Shalang Dhura during the journey back.
